YEAH ROIGHT.
One very strong point of this film is that, it has an A-Star cast. Other than that, not much to say. The middle was such a drag. & I’m not sure about the effectiveness of making the audience see everything twice with very confusing skips to & fro in time.
To be judgemental of the protagonist, I think someone like that had no conscience in the very first place. I don’t care how many ways people can interpret what she did.
All in all, I was glad I didn’t fall asleep.
Käsky

Craziest Nordic film I’ve ever seen, next to I Am Dina. I had to pause it several times. The English alternative title is terribly trashy & does no justice to the film at all. The meaning to the Finnish original title is Command. This film is laden with sexuality & very subtle power play. It is a love story, but a reticent, stoic one. Dialogues are incisive and moving. The ending was good despite the tragedy.
Den du frygter

Danish films manage to do it EVERY TIME. Untold backstories & sinister undercurrents. Super good acting. On top of which, Anders Tomas Jensen helped write this one, too. Complex, suspenseful & harrowing.
Politist, adj.
Interesting socio-political commentary. People familiar with the recent history of Romania would probably relate better to this film.
This film reminds me deeply of Johanna Billing’s project Magical World, where she filmed a group of Croatian children singing Sidney Barnes’ wistful & somewhat cynical song. I saw the video in a Viennese art gallery in 2007, & have never forgotten it since. Incidentally, Romania became part of the EU in January 2007. Police, Adjective brushes upon several aspects of a society still in transition after communist rule & integration into an expanded democratic partnership directed by Western European values. Croatia is a current candidate of the EU and is expected to be accepted into the EU in the next two years.
Sweethearts! What cute little Vikings!
These are short journal entries I’ve jotted down for the past month. I’ve wanted to expand them but there’s really no time, so I’m leaving them as-is.

I read the book more than a year ago, so honestly speaking I don’t remember the details very well. In any case though, this film could really have done better! The book itself isn’t terribly poignant or scary, but with the cinematic techniques of this day, it would definitely have been possible to recreate the atmosphere into something much more focused and enthralling. This 2008 rendition wasn’t very successful in that at all, in my opinion. The soundtrack and cinematography are far too plain.
Robert Stadlober was kind of cute as Lyshko, though. Why didn’t I see anyone like that in Austria?

Super touching.
Sincere and sensitively directed. Every scene is rendered with genuine emotions. It is also partly autobiographical, on the part of director and lead actor Kim Rossi Stuart. Excellent acting from the cast, and melodic, fitting soundrack. Beautiful in many ways.
This is a film about a boy’s struggles to survive in a dysfunctional family. It has been compared to Truffaut’s 400 Blows by some critics. For me, this film reminds me of the Polish film Jestem, which I think shares many elements with Anche Libero Va Bene. Both films are ultimately about a child’s search for independence.
So I saw Angels & Demons today. Thure Lindhardt is pure love. And yay for Stellan! He had his usual suave aura that I love. Nikolaj was his usual, melancholy self, too! Seeing them on the big screen made me happy.
Yup, apart from the Nordic actors. I rather liked the action scenes! This movie reminded me of my time in Rome. (I was running about with a map with all the churches printed on it, too. Ahh, good times.) Ewan McGregor was lovely, of course. My friend and I agreed that it would be wonderful if the guy swimming in the pool at the beginning of the movie had been Ewan.
I haven’t read the book. According to my friend they changed a whole lot of things (which did not improve the plot at all). The camerlengo was supposed to be a good guy! So readers of the book would probably be put off by the movie ending. Also, the movie!camerlengo’s motives were hard to understand. Did he want to snatch the papacy or what?

My friend and I ate at an Italian restaurant (that suited the location of the film pretty well) for lunch and a Taiwanese restaurant for dinner. I ate an amount of food akin to a bull. Srsly! I haven’t really eaten out for a long long time, (the most was on the street next to school), so I ate whatever I wanted to eat that I usually have no easy access to. Oh my. What indulgence!

Bad movie.
Everyone knows the piece of history. There is no need for fictitious drama such as this.
